Tie Your Hope to God

September 30, 2021

“Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken.”  Psalm 55:22

It’s been said a person can live a few days without water, a few minutes without air, but not a moment without hope. The innate belief that beyond circumstances, crises and the burdens of life, that there is something better just ahead—that hope—is something nearly everyone relies on to push through the day, the week, and beyond.

Where does hope come from? God tells us that our hope is in Him. We believe God is who He says He is, and that His Word, the Bible, is true. In that belief, we can know that God is true and just. God never changes. His decisions are always sure and His mind is always set in the same course.

If that were not true, we could not trust in His words or deeds. If God were not constant and consistent, we could not trust the path He tells us to follow would lead us toward Him and toward heaven. Thanks be to God that He is unchanging, unwavering, constant, and true.

Because of this, we can put our hope in God. We can long for the future that He has promised us. And we can know that our hope is not misplaced or mistaken. Hope, real hope, does not result in blind wishes. Real hope, the kind that God gives, leaves us confident in our future. Hope through God gives us the ability to take risks for Him in our lives, resting on His promise of a future that is secure.

Dear Lord, as I am often tempted to put my hope in other people and other things, I pray that you would remind me that the best place I can put my hope is in you. May I remain hopeful because I have you living within me. In Jesus' name, amen.
