“The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.”
Psalm 34:17 (NIV)
Have you ever watched a mother know instantly why her baby is crying? It’s instinctive, and no matter the need, every parent recognizes a desperate cry of their child.
God listens to you the same way.
He hears your silent pain and frustrations. He knows your voice. Psalm 34:17 says, “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.” God hears your every cry. When you are hurt, troubled, or in pain, God doesn’t just hear noise–He hears you.
The next verse says, “The Lord is near the brokenhearted…” When you cry, when you are in trouble, God doesn’t just hear noise–He hears you.
Here’s something fascinating that mirrors your relationship with God. When a baby cries because she is in need, a harmful chemical called cortisol is released in the brain. If her caregiver doesn’t respond, over time the chemical hinders the baby’s brain development.
But when a caregiver responds to the child’s cry and meets her need, a different chemical is released that restores balance in the brain.
It's a perfect picture of how God treats you: He doesn't just hear your cry, He responds in a way that brings healing.
When life feels overwhelming, you have an invitation: cry out to God. Your problems are not too messy or difficult for Him. You can trust that every cry is attended to–every prayer heard.
And as you continue to cry out to God and experience His listening ear, something beautiful happens–your trust grows.
Are you crying out for help today? A difficulty? Burden? A deep disappointment? God is leaning in, listening, ready to help.
Prayer: Father, Thank You for always listening to me. I’m bringing my troubles to You, and I am trusting You to meet my deepest needs. Show me the path to take through difficulty and pain, so that I can walk closely with You and trust You completely. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
