Blinded to See

July 1, 2026

"As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him."
Acts 9:3 (NIV)

What would it take for someone absolutely convinced they are right about God to discover they have been wrong about everything?

Saul is on a 150-mile mission northward to Damascus. He is not traveling for business or vacation. He is breathing murderous threats against the followers of Jesus, armed with arrest warrants, and fully convinced he is doing God a favor. He is the most dangerous enemy the early church has ever faced.

Then heaven cuts him off without warning.

A light from heaven flashes around him with such intensity that he’s thrown from his horse. And a voice says, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" When Saul asks who is speaking, he hears three words that destroy his entire worldview: "I am Jesus."

It isn't the virgin-born Jesus who stops him. It isn't even the crucified Christ. It is the resurrected Lord. The moment the resurrection becomes real, not just a claim but an encounter, everything Saul believed about God, Jesus, and the church shatters and has to be rebuilt from the ground up.

You have access to that same light today. The psalmist calls His Word, "a lamp for my feet, a light on my path" (Psalm 119:105, NIV). Open the Word expecting it to do what Jesus did on that dusty Damascus road, and not to blind you, but to finally let you see clearly.

Prayer: Lord, open my eyes so that I know You truly. I’m crying out to You! I don't want to be the most informed person in the room about You and still be wrong about You. Show me where my confidence has outrun my surrender. Shine where I have been walking in the dark. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
