"For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, 'This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.'"
1 Corinthians 11:23-34 (NIV)
Ever chosen an insurance plan, and wondered what may be covered and what isn’t? You read the fine print looking for exclusions, limitations, things that might disqualify your claim. We can wonder the same thing about grace. Does the blood of Christ have fine print?
To answer that question, travel back 3,000 years ago. Families huddle inside their homes while death stalks the streets outside. But there's something different about the Hebrew houses. Blood marks their doorposts. When the angel of death sees that blood, he passes over those homes and everyone inside lives.
This is Passover. It’s the night when lambs die so families can live. Moses has stood before Pharaoh again and again, demanding freedom for God's people. Each time Pharaoh refuses, God's judgment falls harder on Egypt. Finally, God is ready to deliver His people. His instruction is to slaughter a lamb and spread its blood over the doorframes.
That night, when the angel of death, God's final judgment, sweeps through Egypt, it passes over every home marked by blood. The lamb dies in their place. This isn't partial protection—the sacrifice of a lamb rescues them completely.
Fast forward 1000 years. Jesus takes this ancient feast and transforms its meaning, showing how His blood has no exclusions. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 11 that Jesus breaks bread and says, "This is my body, which is for you." Suddenly, everything clicks into place. Jesus is the Passover Lamb. His blood on the cross becomes your doorpost. When God's judgment comes, His blood covers your sin and death passes over you.
When you have moments where you feel ashamed, remember the blood has already been applied. You don't earn God's acceptance; you receive it. Jesus' sacrifice already covers you completely.
Every time you receive the Lord’s Supper, it isn't a memorial service for someone dead. This is a celebration feast for Someone alive. And through His death, your life is covered and protected forever.
Prayer: Jesus, thank You for being my Passover Lamb. Your blood covers every failure, every sin, every shortcoming. Help me live today remembering I'm already accepted, already protected, already Yours. In Jesus’ mighty Name, Amen.
