"They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles."
Acts 2:42-43 (NIV)
Have you ever wondered what the secret was to the early church's explosive growth?
In 2009, a British TV host named James May built a full-sized, livable house entirely out of LEGO bricks. It's a two-story house with a toilet, shower, bed, and even a LEGO cat. When you take one LEGO and connect it with other LEGOs, it's amazing what you can build.
Jesus knew this principle. When He begins His ministry, the clock is ticking. There are only three years to accomplish the greatest assignment in history. What's the first thing Jesus does? He forms a small group of twelve men.
Think about the early church. You've got a small band of disciples preaching about their resurrected Lord. They go from 120 followers to more than 3,000 in one day. Christianity spreads like wildfire. What’s surprising is that the early church is just a collection of small groups. There's no record of any church building until the early to mid-third century.
Acts 2:42-43 shows why no building was needed. "They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." They're committed to doing life together. The early church prioritized learning together, eating together, and praying together.
You weren't designed to follow Jesus alone. Think of one person in your church you’d love to do more life with. Make a decision and text them, "I'd love to explore doing life together. Coffee this week?" That simple text could be the first LEGO brick of something amazing God wants to build through you this year.
Prayer: Father, thank You for designing me to link up with others. Give me courage to reach out and connect with other believers this week. Help me see that I'm not meant to do this alone. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
