Counterfeit Currency

March 19, 2026

"As he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, 'I know what a beautiful woman you are. When the Egyptians see you, they will say, "This is his wife." Then they will kill me but will let you live. Say you are my sister, so that I will be treated well for your sake and my life will be spared because of you.'"
Genesis 12:11-13 (NIV)

Ever been so afraid that you compromised something important?

That's Abraham in Egypt. The man who built altars, who called on the name of the Lord, who walked by faith out of everything familiar—that man is now throwing his wife under the bus to save his own skin. A man of faith has become controlled by fear.

Here's what doubt does when you let it run long enough. It doesn't just affect your decisions, it contaminates your character. Abraham acquires masses of sheep, cattle, servants, and camels. Genesis 12:16 reads like a prosperity list. But Sarai is in Pharaoh's harem.

The world always pays in counterfeit currency—you get everything you thought you wanted and none of what actually matters.

Isaiah 31:1 warns, "Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help." Every day you face the same choice. You can go up toward God or go down toward the world's solutions. When you choose Egypt, you don't just lose your peace, you lose your witness.

But even when Abraham forgot God, God did not forget Abraham. He intervened, protected Sarai, and brought Abraham back richer and restored.

God made a promise, and God keeps His promises even when we don't.

So what has God promised you today? His presence. His protection. His provision. God's promises don't expire when the pressure increases. They're most active when you need them most.

Walk into this day knowing the God who kept every promise to Abraham is walking into every moment with you.

Prayer: Lord, You are the God who never forgets Your promise. Thank you! Forgive me for the times I've traded Your best for the world's counterfeit. Restore what doubt has cost me, and remind me today that You never stopped keeping Your promises, even when I struggle to trust You. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
