“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”
Acts 2:42 (NIV)
Have you ever wondered what would happen if Christians today lived exactly like the early Church?
The early believers didn’t seem to compartmentalize their lives. Acts tells us they "had everything in common." This isn’t merely about survival after being expelled from the synagogues. It’s a radical reorientation of values, recognizing that if Jesus is who He says He is, possessions fade in significance compared to eternal relationships.
The world has trained us to build barriers—separate homes, cars, offices, and bank accounts. We've mastered the art of division while the early Church mastered the art of unity. They understood that true wealth wasn't measured by what you keep, but by what you're willing to share.
This doesn't mean you have to adopt communal living, but it does challenge you to ask: Are my possessions serving God's kingdom? Am I holding too tightly to things that were meant to flow through my life to bless others?
Today, look around at what God has entrusted to you. Then ask Him to show you one way you can share it to strengthen His Church and advance His kingdom.
When you hold your possessions with open hands, you find yourself holding more of Jesus.
Prayer: Father, forgive me for often valuing possessions over people. Help me to hold everything you've given me with open hands, ready to share with fellow believers in need. Show me today how I can use what I have to strengthen your Church and show your love. In Jesus' name, Amen.
