"Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."
Deuteronomy 6:7 (NIV)

Have you ever watched an engraver work? With each strike, the tool cuts deeper into the stone, creating markings that will last for generations.

This is the idea Moses has in mind when he tells parents to "impress" God's truth on their children. The Hebrew word used in this verse means "to sharpen" or "to engrave"—like etching text into granite. It takes repeated, intentional efforts to make God's truth permanent in young hearts.

Here’s the truth: The primary responsibility for educating your children doesn't lie with schools, the church, or society. It lies with you.

This doesn't mean you need a theology degree to teach your children about God. Start simple. Tell them stories of how you came to faith, when God has come through for you. Explain the Ten Commandments and how they lead to the greatest commandments: to love God supremely and to love others sacrificially.

If you are going to instill faith in your children, it requires intentional engraving. It can happen in morning conversations, bedtime prayers, dinner table discussions, and moments in the car.

And if your children are adults, your careful work doesn’t stop. It happens as you dive into faithful prayer each day and offer loving encouragement (despite your children’s choices). Your parenting role may have changed, but the responsibility to model and sow a spiritual legacy remains.

The question isn't whether you have time to do this—it's whether you'll make time. Your children's spiritual future depends on the daily investments you make today.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for trusting me to leave a spiritual legacy. Give me the discipline and creativity to consistently teach Your truth to the next generation. Help me see every day as an opportunity to engrave Your love on young hearts. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
