Forgiven

January 29, 2020

“I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions, for My own sake, and remembers your sins no more.” - Isaiah 43:25

Have you ever been offered conditional forgiveness? I mean the kind of forgiveness that says, “I forgive you,” yet continues to bring up your mistake whenever you mess up? There is nothing more frustrating than being reminded of past mistakes…especially when someone claims to have forgiven you.

God’s forgiveness is not like this. He not only wipes our sin away, He refuses to bring it up ever again. No, “I told you so,” or, “I can’t believe you did it again!” Never a reminder of past failures or broken promises…just forgiveness, period, end of story.

It’s unfathomable, isn’t it? How can a holy God overlook our continual sin? He can’t. He didn’t overlook it. Our sin has been punished and His anger towards us quenched. All of God’s righteous fury and jealous rage came down on His perfect Son. This is how we are forgiven.

We must never allow ourselves to grow accustomed to being forgiven and set free from sin. We must not take for granted the sacrifice that brought us peace with God. We cannot grow comfortable and complacent. Christ is worthy of more. He is worthy of everything.

Father, You have not only forgiven me, but have chosen to see me through the righteousness of Your Son. This truth is too wonderful to fully comprehend. Please help me to live a life worthy of the Gospel, and to spread this amazing message to the ends of the earth.

 In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
