"Abraham answered, 'God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.' And the two of them went on together."
Genesis 22:8 (NIV)
There's a moment on the way up Mount Moriah that really gets your attention.
Abraham has the fire, the wood and the knife. His son Isaac walks beside him, carrying the wood that will be used to sacrifice himself, though he doesn't know it. Then Isaac looks up. “‘The fire and wood are here,’ Isaac said, ‘but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?’” (Genesis 22:7b, NIV)
Abraham looks at his son and answers with everything he has in today’s verse: "God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son." Those words are the whole sermon. Abraham’s response is not wishful thinking or a way to avoid the question.
It’s a statement of hard-won faith from a man walking up a mountain with no idea how God is going to come through, but every reason to believe He will.
Testing is God's opportunity to prove His faithfulness. It's also your opportunity to prove your faith. The testimony you'll have on the other side of a test won't come from the easy moments. It'll come from the moment you choose to keep climbing anyway.
You're carrying something today that doesn't have a clear path forward. Maybe you're filling out another job application wondering if anything will ever change, or you're watching a relationship fall apart and don't know how to stop it. That's Mount Moriah. Before you try to solve it today, say Abraham's five words out loud wherever you are: 'God Himself will provide.' Then take the next step in front of you.
The God who provided a lamb for Abraham will provide for you too.
Prayer: Father, thank You that You’re my provider. I am in the middle of a climb right now and I don't know how You're going to come through. But Abraham didn't know either, and You showed up. I trust that You will provide. Help me to keep walking. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
