God's Spirit

“No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” Acts 19:2

There is someone that you know if you are a follower of Jesus Christ. He goes everywhere you go. He will never leave you and loves you more than anyone else in the world ever could. This “someone” is the Holy Spirit. If you have surrendered your life to God through faith in Christ, the Holy Spirit is not only with you, He lives in you.

Many people in the world, particularly unbelievers, don’t know anything about the Holy Spirit. For many the term “Holy Spirit” is one of many “churchy” phrases that may be familiar, but actually means little to them. There are even many Christians who are quite unfamiliar or uncomfortable with the Holy Spirit. Moreover, many believers who do know about the Holy Spirit are simply indifferent to Him. These Christians are satisfied with being saved and knowing God. They aren’t interested in living a Spirit-filled, Spirit-directed, Spirit-honoring life.

Why is it so important for Christians to have a strong relationship with the Holy Spirit? It is important because it is impossible to be rightly related to God the Father unless you are rightly related to God the Son. You cannot be rightly related to God the Father or God the Son unless you are rightly related to God the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our connection to God and to Christ.

If you are a believer, do you understand the importance of the Holy Spirit in your life? He is the one who enables you to live the Christian life. He is your Helper, your Teacher, and your Guide.

Dear Lord, thank you for the gift of your Holy Spirit. I pray that you would help me never forget the importance of following the Spirit's lead, and that I would be sensitive to His guidance and direction in my life. Amen.

And he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
“I have said all these things to you to keep you from falling away.
They will put you out of the synagogues. Indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God.
And they will do these things because they have not known the Father, nor me.
But I have said these things to you, that when their hour comes you may remember that I told them to you. “I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you.
But now I am going to him who sent me, and none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’
But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.
Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.
And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:
concerning sin, because they do not believe in me;
concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer;
concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.
He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
