Greater In You

"You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world."
1 John 4:4 (NIV)

What would it take to stop feeling uncomfortable every time someone asks you a hard question about faith?

In today's verse, John writes to people who feel the same pressure you do. False teachers surround them. These teachers sound confident and smart, and John tells them exactly why these believers haven't given in.

It isn't because they're smarter or better at arguing. It's because Someone else lives inside them. "You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world" (1 John 4:4, NIV).

You don't win this fight by out-thinking anyone. You win because the Holy Spirit already lives inside you. He keeps you steady even when other voices try to pull you off course.

Think about the insulation in your walls. In winter, it keeps the heat in and the cold out. In summer, it does the opposite. It works both ways, even though you never see it happening. The Holy Spirit works the same way in you. He keeps the truth in and the lies out, whether you notice it or not.

Maybe a professor, a podcast, or your relative at Thanksgiving says the Bible is outdated. In those moments, you might feel outnumbered. But you don't need the perfect comeback for every point they make. Instead, pray. Then answer from His Word, and let the Holy Spirit do the rest.

This fight for what you believe was never fair to begin with. The One who lives in you is greater than every voice in the world, and He has already won.

Prayer: Father, thank You that the Spirit living in me is greater than any voice arguing against You. When I feel uncertain about a question someone asks about You, remind me I don't have to win the argument; I just have to stay anchored in what You've already done and in Your Word. Help me speak with grace and truth. In Jesus' name, Amen.
