Here’s Your Sign

What would it take to prove to you that someone really is who they claim to be?

In the 19th century, French artist Paul Gustave Doré loses his passport while traveling. When he gets to the border and tells the immigration official he really is Doré, the famous painter, the official hands him paper and pencil and says, "Prove it." Within minutes, he produces such a brilliant sketch that the official is convinced.

Jesus performs miracles, or “signs” no one else ever performed. He heals the sick, makes the blind see, casts out demons, raises the dead, and calms storms. He performs 37 of the 103 miracles in the entire Bible, almost one out of four. What sets Jesus apart is that He performs them by His own power, His own word, and under His own authority.

Then Jesus does something even greater. When a paralyzed man is lowered through a roof, Jesus says, "Son, your sins are forgiven." So the Pharisees immediately think, "Who can forgive sins but God alone?" They're exactly right. Only God can forgive sins.

If you doubt whether God remembers what you’re facing, remember His miracles. If John were here today and you asked him why he believed Jesus was God, he would probably say, "Here's your sign." The works Jesus performed prove exactly who he claimed to be.

Prayer: Father, thank You for the signs Jesus performed that prove he's God. When I struggle with doubt, remind me that his miracles weren't just displays of power, they were proof of his identity. Strengthen my faith today. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
