"Sarah said, 'God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.'"
Genesis 21:6 (NIV)
Sarah has waited 90 years for this moment. The nursery is finally full and the baby is here. Then she does the one thing you wouldn't expect from a woman who has lived through that much disappointment. She laughs.
"God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me" (Genesis 21:6, NIV). Sarah has laughed before, but that was doubt. This time God delivered, and belief takes over with a joy too big to keep to yourself.
God tells Abraham in Genesis 12:3, "all peoples on earth will be blessed through you." He doesn't save you so that you can go to Heaven. He saves you so you can experience the eternal life of Heaven now, and take more people there with you later.
Sarah doesn't have to convince anyone to celebrate. What she has witnessed is so remarkable that everyone who hears about it laughs with her.
Where has God come through for you? A bill that got paid when you didn't see how. A diagnosis that turned better than expected. A relationship you thought was too broken to survive that somehow found its way back. Write a few of those moments down.
Then think of one specific person in your life who doesn't know Jesus. Reach out this week and tell them, "I've been thinking about you. God has really come through for me lately and it made me want to pray for you too. Is there anything I can bring to Him on your behalf?" What God did for Sarah, He can do for them too. And you get to be the one who tells them.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for saving me. Now open my eyes to the one person right in front of me who doesn't know You yet. Give me the courage to take one step toward them this week. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
