"The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. All have turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one."
Psalm 14:2-3 (NIV)
You wake up one morning and suddenly you're thinking about God. Maybe it's a crisis. Maybe it's a quiet moment. You assume you're seeking Him on your own. But the truth is that you’re not.
Psalm 14:3 says it plainly—"all have turned away." Nobody looks for God naturally. Your sinful nature wants to rebel, disobey, and abandon God at every turn. If you're thinking about God right now, it's not because you're spiritually ambitious. It's because God is drawing you.
Jesus says in John 6:44, "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws them." That desire you feel? That's the Holy Spirit creating hunger in you. The faith to seek God, to surrender to God? All of it comes from God.
Even your ability to believe is a gift. Ephesians 2:8 puts it this way: "By grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God." Left to yourself, you'd seek everything but God. Not one person comes to faith because they had a sudden urge to pursue a perfect God they had no way of knowing. Salvation is all God and none of you.
So when doubt creeps in and tries to condemn, "Did I really hear God or am I making this up?", remember that your faith isn't fragile because it doesn't depend on your strength. The next time you open your Bible and feel that pull toward prayer, pause and pray, "Thank you, Father, for drawing me to you today."
When you're tempted to think your spiritual growth is about your discipline, stop and acknowledge the truth that every step toward God is a gift He gave you first. Your salvation rests on God's initiative, not your performance. That's the most liberating truth you'll ever grasp.
Prayer: Dear God, thank You that You’ve been pursuing me all along. Thank you for giving me the faith to trust you, the desire to know you, and the grace to surrender my life to you. Every time I open your Word, every time I pray, every time my heart turns toward you, that's your gift. Help me remember that my salvation is secure, not because I'm strong, but because you are faithful. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
