Not Up For Debate

August 25, 2026

"Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator made them male and female."
Matthew 19:4 (NIV)

What if the answer to today's most debated question about marriage has already been settled for two thousand years?

The Pharisees push Jesus toward a legal loophole on divorce, but He starts somewhere else entirely, all the way back at creation. "Haven't you read that at the beginning the Creator made them male and female?" Jesus is not just offering His personal opinion about the definition of marriage, though that alone would have settled it. He points straight to God's original design, the first marriage.

He states it clearly. Human beings are either male or female. Those are the only two categories, and He is not confused about either one.

Look at who "them" actually is—Adam and Eve, who are the first married couple in history. Jesus builds three things into that one word.

Duality, because it takes two people to marry, not one and not three.

Heterosexuality, because He creates them male and female, not two of the same.

Monogamy, because His plan from the start is one man, one wife, one life.

If God had wanted something else, He could have created it that way. He did not. That picture has not changed since Eden.

Before you build your view of marriage from anywhere else, open Genesis and let the Inventor speak for Himself. He did not leave you multiple choices. He gave you His one.

Prayer: Father, You already told me exactly what marriage is. Our world keeps listening to everyone except You. We repent, Lord. Help us return to Your design. In heated conversations, help us remain clear and gentle, speaking the truth in love. And give us boldness to declare Your Word with confidence. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
