Put Your Glasses On

"So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."
2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV)

You know that moment when the alarm goes off, and you reach for your glasses before you do anything else, because without them nothing is clear? 

Paul says that's exactly how most people are living their entire lives, not because they can't see, but because they're trying to focus on the wrong things entirely.

Think about one of your goals. Maybe a promotion, a paid-off mortgage, or a healthier body. Work hard enough and you can often get there. But a life built entirely on goals you can reach without Christ is a life that never truly needs Him.

In today’s verse, Paul uses the word "fix" deliberately. It means to direct attention, to contemplate, or to hold your gaze on something even when your circumstances are pulling it somewhere else. He's asking you to see past what's temporary to what lasts.

When you do, the goals that require the Holy Spirit start looking more attractive than the ones that only require your effort. Think about a biblical marriage, genuine selflessness, leading someone to Christ, and giving sacrificially. None of these happen without His grace. And none of them are temporary, either.

So this week, look at what you're working hardest toward and ask whether God is required for any of it. If the honest answer is no, that’s not a goal. That's just a plan. 

Put your eternity glasses on. What you see through them will change what you spend your life chasing.

Prayer: Father, I confess I've been chasing things I can reach on my own. Shift my eyes to what the things that require You to show up. Help me live dependent upon You today, Lord, not just relying on my own effort. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
