“…And they (Seraphim) were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of His glory.’” Isaiah 6:3
The single most important thing about you is not how much money you make. It is not what you look like or how popular you are. The most important thing about you is how you see God. The reason for this truth is simple: If your view of God is wrong, then your view of everything else is wrong, too. Your view of yourself is shaped by your view of God. Your view of other people is determined by your view of God. Your view of possessions, politics, religion, career, and education are all wrapped up in your view of God. You cannot possibly understand what is really important if you do not see God correctly.
Herein lies the problem. If you ask fifty different people how they view God, you will likely get fifty different descriptions. So how do we ensure that we are seeing God accurately? We must base our view of God on how He views Himself, not on what other people tell us or on what we think and feel.
God’s Word – the Bible – is more than just a collection of historical truths. It is more than instructions on how Christians should live. The Bible is a deep look into the very heart of God. Its pages reveal His character. Its precepts uncover His glory bit by bit. If the truths of God are food, then the Bible is the ultimate all-you-can-eat buffet. It is where we can come to taste and see that He is good. In its sacred pages, we can feast on His greatness.
It is impossible to see God clearly, in truth, apart from His Word. This does not mean that He won’t use other means to speak, but His Word is the most comprehensive picture of who He is. In just the first four verses of Isaiah chapter six we learn that God is: 1) Alive (as opposed to King Uzziah – the earthly king who died); 2) Reigning (seated on His throne); 3) Omnipotent (His throne is high and lifted up); 4) Full of splendor (the train of His robe filled the temple); 5) Revered (worshiped by the seraphim surrounding His throne; 6) Holy (“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty”); and 7) Glorious (“…the whole earth is full of His glory).
There are approximately 30,500 verses in the Bible. Can you imagine - if just four give such an awesome description of God - what riches the rest of Scripture holds?
Father, thank You for revealing Yourself to me through Your Word. May I learn and grow to cherish the Bible as a priceless gift from You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
