"The Lord had said to Abram, 'Go from your country, your people and your father's household to the land I will show you.'"
Genesis 12:1 (NIV)

Do you ever feel too far gone for God to reach you?

Abram lives in Ur of the Chaldeans. Think ancient New York City. It's a cultural center of 250,000 people, steeped in paganism and idol worship. The entire world has rebelled against God. After Adam and Eve's fall, after the flood, after the Tower of Babel, humanity sits in complete spiritual darkness.

And Abram? Joshua 24:2 tells us plainly: "Abraham lived beyond the Euphrates River and worshiped other gods." He's not "Father Abraham" yet. He's faithless Abram. He’s a pagan Gentile with no connection to God, no desire for God.

Then Genesis 12:1 happens, "The Lord had said to Abram, 'Go from your country...'" God breaks the silence. He seeks Abram. Not because Abram deserves it. Not because Abram's been searching for Him. God speaks first—pure grace.

Abram doesn't seek God; God seeks Abram. You didn't find God; God found you. Romans 10:17 says, "Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ." God initiates.

You might waver in your Bible reading or spiritual disciplines. Maybe you’ve blown it at work and your marriage is in tatters. Remember Abram bowing to moon idols when God called his name. God sees you first. He still calls you.

Then open Scripture, even one verse. Let God find you and speak to you, even when it seems like darkness, to a land He will show you.

Prayer: Father, thank You for seeking me when I wasn't looking for You. When I feel distant or unqualified, remind me that relationship with You starts with Your grace, not my goodness. Help me hear Your Word today. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
