Stop Being Paranoid

October 3, 2025

"There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord."
1 Corinthians 12:4-5 (NIV)

How many times did you check the news today?

Twenty years ago, you could follow one major story for weeks. Today, you're lucky if a crisis lasts until lunch before the next headline explodes across your feed. The news cycle spins faster than ever and creates a culture of constant anxiety.

In today’s verse, Paul writes to young Timothy, who faces real persecution and dangerous threats. But Paul reminds him of this: "God has not given us a spirit of fear." This isn't a denial of danger; it's recognition of divine power.

You belong to the God of the universe! He holds the world together moment by moment, and breath by breath. When you remember Who you belong to, you can trust and not be afraid.

That’s because peace isn't the absence of difficulties but the presence of God. What robs your peace is when you focus on the problems instead of fixing your eyes on Jesus.

When breaking news creates anxiety in your heart, turn your cares into prayers because prayer is the pathway to peace. Instead of scrolling endlessly through social media, ask God, "How can You use this situation?" Look for ways to serve others rather than ways to worry more.

When you catch yourself spiraling into fear, pray: "Lord, You've given me power, love, and a sound mind. Help me access that truth right now instead of letting anxiety control me."

You serve the God who knows what's happening and what's going to happen. You can be free from stress or worry about what’s ahead—because He’s already there, and is faithful.

Prayer: God, thank You that because of You, I have nothing to be afraid of. I know You hold the world together and have my best interests at heart. Help me see today's news as opportunities to pray and serve, not reasons to panic. Thank You for guarding my heart and mind with perfect peace. In Jesus' name, Amen.
