"Whoever fears the LORD has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge."
Proverbs 14:26 (NIV)
What if your reverence for God could become a spiritual fortress that protects your children for life?
At the Alamo, Commander William Travis drew a line in the dirt. Every person had to choose—cross the line and face certain death, or leave and surrender. All but one crossed that line, choosing sacrifice over giving in.
Today, you're drawing your own line. Not with a sword, but with your reverence for God. Your children watch how you speak about God, how you prioritize His house, how you respond when His name is mentioned. Do they see genuine awe or are you acting casually about the things of faith?
Our culture's preference is a convenient god who prioritizes our happiness over His holiness. But real faith requires genuine reverence. This isn't about being afraid of God like a tyrant; it's about being in awe of God like a loving Father who deserves our utmost respect.
King Solomon understood this when he wrote in today’s verse that fearing the Lord creates a secure fortress for your children. When children witness your genuine reverence expressed through prayer, obedience, and commitment, they develop their own authentic relationship with God.
The way you model reverence for God speaks more powerfully to your children than anything you could ever say about Him. What are your actions teaching them today?
Prayer: Father, thank You for teaching me to honor Your holiness, even above my happiness. That is not how the world thinks, but it is how I want to believe. Help me develop a genuine reverence for You that my children can see and feel. Let my awe of You create a spiritual fortress of safety in our home. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
