The Guy in the Hut

November 14, 2025

"For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—His eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse."
Romans 1:20 (NIV)

He's the perfect excuse, isn't he? That guy in the hut on a remote island who's never heard about Jesus. We’ve wondered about his fate while ignoring our neighbor who lives ten feet away.

In Romans 1:20, the Scripture says that God's "eternal power and divine nature" are "clearly seen" through creation itself. That man in the hut looks at the ocean, the trees, the complexity of his own body, and knows, deep down, someone made this. Every sunrise. Every mountain range. Every microscopic cell structure. Creation screams that there's a Creator.

God has revealed Himself through what He has made. So Paul says people are "without excuse." You can't stand before God and say, "I had no idea you existed" when creation itself is shouting His existence every single day.

Now, if God holds those accountable who only see creation, how much more accountable are you who have a Bible, a church, and countless opportunities to know Him fully? That question isn't meant to terrify you; it's meant to mobilize you.

Your neighbor who mows his lawn every Saturday morning needs to hear about Jesus. Tomorrow, when he waves, walk over and say, "Hey, can I grab coffee with you this week? I'd love to hear your story." Your coworker who complains about life every Monday, when she vents next time about her weekend, say, "I've been praying for you. Would it be okay if I kept doing that?"

You have something that the man in the hut doesn't. You have the full revelation of Jesus Christ. Don't let the people in your everyday life miss out on what you've been given.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for this wake-up call. Forgive me when I keep this treasure to myself. Open my eyes to the people right in front of me who need to hear about you, my neighbor, my coworker, my family member. Give me the courage to speak up tomorrow. Use my life to point others to you. In Your Name, Jesus, Amen.

Bible Reference

For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
