The Love You Keep Chasing

October 5, 2026

"God is love."
1 John 4:8, 16 (ESV)

If you were to listen to this year's Top 100 songs, you’ll find one word over and over. 60-70% of those songs are about love. In fact, worldwide, love is the theme of roughly half of every song released. You aren't imagining it. The whole world is in love with love.

Why? Psychologists say every human being carries the same three needs. You need to be wanted. You need to be needed. You need to be loved. You have those needs for good reason! Those who feel loved carry 50% less risk of depression and 35% percent less risk of early death. Love isn't a decoration on your life. It's the oxygen.

No one knows more about love and about how to truly love than God above. The Bible is God's love letter to the human race.

In Scripture, it’s the apostle John who writes about love more than anyone else. He uses the word over forty times in 1 John alone. He is the only author who records the Bible's greatest statement about love, which is today’s verse: “God is love.”

That isn't one thing God does among many things. Love is who He is.

Every love song you've ever hummed is an echo of love - of God. Today, before you pick up your phone again looking for a message that shows someone cares for you, turn your heart toward God. He already loves you completely, and you don't have to earn it today.

We can spend our lives chasing love that fades in a three-minute song. God's love song for you never stops playing.

Prayer: Father, Thank You that You are love itself, not just loving toward me sometimes. Help me stop looking for what You've already given me completely. Let me rest in being loved by You before I try to be loved by anyone else today - or any day. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Bible Reference

There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.
