The Only Perfect Life

December 24, 2025

"Can any of you prove me guilty of sin?"
John 8:46 (NIV)

Can you imagine standing before your harshest critics and asking them to find fault in you?

In today’s verse, Jesus asks the Pharisees, the people who hate Him most, a question nobody would dare ask unless they knew the answer was no: "Can any of you prove me guilty of sin?"

Both Buddha and Jesus asked not just "Who are you?" but "What are you?" The difference is that Buddha made it extremely plain he was not a god or any type of divine being. But Jesus repeatedly claimed to be God the creator of the world.

In the entire history of this planet, there's only one person who claimed to be God and still got enormous numbers of people to believe it because of the way that He lived. Pontius Pilate, under tremendous pressure to find something wrong with Jesus, examines Him three times and says twice, "I find no basis for a charge against him." Two disciples who lived with Jesus 24/7 for three years wrote, "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth." (See 1 Peter 2:22)

If Jesus were just a man claiming to be God, He would have slipped up somewhere. But His perfect life backs up His perfect claim. The walk he practiced proves the words he proclaimed.

He is perfect, which means He’s completely trustworthy. Your faith doesn’t rest on someone or something unreliable; but on His unchanging and certain identity. He’s the same through and through, so you never have to wonder if He’ll come through for you today.

Prayer: Father, thank You that Jesus's perfect life proves who He is. Help me live today in light of the truth that I follow not just a good teacher, but the sinless God who became man. So I can trust in Him completely. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
