"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ."
Ephesians 1:3 (NIV)
I heard a story about a tax assessor who once visited an old farmer to assess his property. The man shocked him by saying, "I'm actually a very wealthy man. In fact, I'm probably by far and away the richest man in this city."
The assessor grabbed his ledger, ready to write. "Would you mind listing out your possessions?"
"I'd be happy to. First, I have eternal life. Second, I have a home in heaven. Third, I have a peace that passes all understanding. Fourth, I have joy unspeakable and full of glory. Fifth, I have forgiveness for all my sins. I have a crown of life waiting on me that will never fade away. I have a Savior named Jesus, who supplies all my needs and will never leave me or forsake me."
The tax assessor closed his book and said, "Sir, you are the richest man I've ever met in my life. Unfortunately, none of that is subject to taxation."
That is the kind of experience the Apostle Paul has in mind in this verse. You have been blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ. Now, notice two words he uses: "has" and "every." God has already given you every spiritual blessing in Christ.
What does that really mean? When you feel overwhelmed by stress, instead of saying "I need more peace," you can pray: "God, you've already given me your peace. I'm choosing to access it right now."
Every ounce of peace, patience, and wisdom you need has been given to you. All you have to do is accept the truth of God’s Word—and receive the fullness of His promise.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for giving me Your Holy Spirit, who provides everything I need for life and godliness. Help me realize how blessed I am! When I feel lacking, remind me that I have a joint account with Jesus containing everything I need. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
