"Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord."
Ephesians 5:22 (NIV)
That word "submit" makes your blood pressure rise, doesn't it? But you submit every single day without thinking twice about it.
Privates submit to generals, citizens submit to police, employees submit to bosses, students submit to teachers, and players submit to coaches. Society can't function without submission. You stop at red lights, follow your boss's instructions, and respect the referee's call, all forms of submission that keep life running smoothly.
This is the reality that will change everything for you: Submission to your spouse flows from submission to Jesus. Husband, do you tend toward control? When you truly submit to Jesus, control turns to care. Wife, do you want to resist your husband’s opinion? When you see you’re actually following Jesus, resistance melts into respect.
Think about a train. You know why a train can go where it needs to go, carry what it needs to carry, and do what it needs to do? Because it stays between the tracks. Those tracks aren't limits, they're what give the train its power and purpose.
Every time you choose to submit, you move closer to a home of peace and away from mornings filled with strife and tension. When your spouse undermines you tomorrow, instead of retaliating, pray: "Lord, You’ve given me patience. I’m choosing to access it right now." Watch how submission to Christ transforms every relationship.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, You submitted to the Father and gained everything. Help me see that submission isn't about losing, but about gaining the freedom to be who You created me to be. Help me submit to You in every moment today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
