True Success

July 28, 2025

"But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that."
1 Timothy 6:6-8, NIV

What if everything you thought you knew about success was wrong?

A businesswoman sits in her corner office, surrounded by accolades. Her bank account overflows, but her heart feels empty. Down the hall, a custodian hums quietly as he works, content with his life and grateful for God's provision. The world calls one successful and overlooks the other, but God's measuring stick tells a different story.

The Apostle Paul reveals God's radical definition of success in today’s verse: “But godliness with contentment is great gain.” (1 Tim. 6:6a) The Greek word in this verse for "great gain" literally means "success beyond measure." But notice what creates this success: it’s not gaining more possessions, but godliness with contentment. You find true wealth when you surrender your life to God and discover satisfaction in His provision.

This verse reminds you that you entered this world empty-handed and you'll leave the same way. Everything between is on loan. When you understand this truth, you stop chasing luxuries and start appreciating necessities. Food, clothing, shelter, medical care—these basics become blessings when seen through grateful eyes.

Today, you can measure your success not by what you've gained, but by how surrendered you are to God. And how satisfied you are with His provision. These are the kinds of riches that never lose value.

Prayer: Father! How easily I abandon contentment and begin to envy. Lord, thank You that Your abundant mercy is new and sufficient every morning. Teach me that my deepest longings and true fulfillment are in You alone. Let my contentment rely on Your faithful provision. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment,
for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.
But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.
