"Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
Colossians 3:2 (NIV)
What if the very thing missing from our world could unlock hearts and open doors to share the Gospel?
A veteran who is experiencing homelessness sits at the intersection, holding a cardboard sign. Our cars pass by, our windows are up, and perhaps our eyes are forward. At times, I wonder if we lack the ability to see suffering and respond with compassion.
But Jesus spent time with society’s outcasts. He chose fishermen, tax collectors, and prostitutes. He healed diseases, fed crowds, and raised the dead. His compassion wasn't selective; it was comprehensive.
Our world desperately needs what Jesus demonstrated—authentic compassion. Homelessness, hunger, medical crises, and financial struggles are all around you, yet we can be numb to others’ pain.
But here's the promise: When you clothe yourself with compassion, you reflect Christ's image and create Gospel opportunities. Compassion breaks down barriers that arguments cannot. It opens conversations that sermons cannot.
You don't need special permission to show compassion. You need eyes to see, a heart to care, and hands willing to help.
Prayer: Father, thank You for seeing us in our need. Open my eyes to see the needs around me. Fill me with Your compassion and give me opportunities to serve others and share Your love. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
