When God Gets His Way

And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
1 John 5:15 (ESV)

Do you ever feel like you have to kick down God’s door to get Him to do something?

Many people believe they have to raise their voice and pitch a fit to move God to hear and answer their prayers. The truth is that God delights in hearing your prayer. God wants to answer your prayers, and He does when you pray the right way.

Look closely at 1 John 5:15: “And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him” (ESV). Do you see how the word “know” is used twice? Thinking something is true is an opinion. Knowing something is true is a conviction.

You can be absolutely convinced that God will reward your prayers. When you want what He wants, you agree on what you want, and you both get what you want. God wants His will to be done. When you want God’s will to be done, and it is, you both get what you want.

And His will is better than anything you would dare to ask for. The highest achievement in life is finding the will of God. The greatest accomplishment in life is doing the will of God. The greatest prayers in life ask for the will of God.

Today, pick the one prayer you’ve been shouting to Heaven, perhaps about your marriage or a recent diagnosis. Pray it again, and say, “Father, I don’t have to convince You. What do You want here? Because that’s what I want too.” Then stop going over it again, and start watching for His answer.

You don’t have to kick down a door that’s already open. When God gets His way, you get the best.

Prayer: Father, I’ve prayed as if I had to beat on Your door to get You to listen. Thank You that You delight to hear me. Thank You that Your will for me was so good it sent Jesus to the cross. Today I want what You want, because when You get Your way, I get the best. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
