When Heaven’s Light Breaks Through

August 18, 2025

"Suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, 'Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?'"
Acts 9:3-4 (NIV)

Have you ever been completely wrong about something important?

Saul travels the Damascus Road as an enemy of Christ, carrying arrest warrants and threatening followers of Jesus. He's absolutely convinced he's serving God by destroying the church. Then heaven's light breaks through with supernatural intensity, and Jesus speaks his name.

What changes everything isn’t learning about Jesus, but encountering the resurrected Lord. In that moment, Saul realizes everything he believed about Jesus is completely wrong. The man he's been persecuting is alive, ruling from heaven's throne.

You have access to that same transforming light today through God's Word, which is "a lamp for my feet, a light on my path" (Psalm 119:105, NIV). Whether you’re reading Scripture, hearing a sermon, watching a movie about Christ, or having a quiet conversation with a friend, God's truth can illuminate your darkness just as powerfully as it did with Saul on that dusty Damascus road.

The light that stopped a persecutor can stop you, too. And His light isn’t sent to blind you but to help you finally see clearly. When you encounter the risen Christ, not just as a historical figure but as the living Lord, everything changes about you, and everything changes in you.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, shine Your light into any areas of my life where I've been walking in darkness. Help me see You clearly as the risen, living Savior who wants to transform my heart completely. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
