Who's Spinning Whom?

July 3, 2025

"In the beginning, God…”
Genesis 1:1 (NIV)

Who or what receives most of your time and attention?

For centuries, brilliant minds believed the sun revolved around Earth. When people looked up, it seemed obvious: we stood still while the sun circled us. Then Copernicus shocked the world in 1543, proving that the Earth actually orbited the sun. We weren't the center after all.

But many of us still live with a spiritual "earth-centric" mindset. We "make God a part of our lives" or "invite Jesus into our hearts"—language that subtly places us at the center with God orbiting around our priorities, our schedules, and our desires.

But Genesis 1:1 immediately establishes the truth: "In the beginning, God…" Not us. The Bible isn't humanity's story with God as supporting character; it's God's story, and we're privileged participants in His grand narrative.

When you realize your life orbits Him rather than the reverse, everything changes. Your decisions, relationships, and daily choices align with His will instead of asking Him to bless your predetermined plans.

Today, let your schedule, conversations, and priorities reflect that God is the center around which your life revolves and experience the blessing and freedom of a life ordered by the Creator.

Prayer: Father, forgive me when I place myself at the center. Lord, You know how easily I do this. Help me live knowing that I orbit around You, not the other way around. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
