Work Together

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” Hebrews 10:24

When God sent Jesus Christ to this planet He wasn’t thinking about Himself; He was thinking about us, His children.  When Jesus Christ left heaven and came to earth to die for us He wasn’t thinking about Himself; He was thinking about us, His disciples. Therefore, when we become followers of Jesus we no longer have the luxury of thinking about ourselves. We are supposed to think about others. As Christ followers, we ought to consider how we can encourage each other to worship and serve God.

This is where so many people misunderstand why we should be involved in a local church family. Christians ought to be part of a church, not because of what we can get out of it, but because of what we can give to it. We are not here to see what we can get from each other, but rather what we can give to one another.  The Christian life is not just a commitment to Christ. It is also a commitment to other Christians. This is why Jesus said to His disciples in John 13:35, “By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.”

Once you make the decision to become a follower of Christ you also make two other decisions. First, you make the decision to be a witness to lead others who don’t know Christ to become His followers. Second, you make a decision to commit yourself to other followers of Christ, to help them and encourage them in their relationship with God. And every other Christ follower has made the same commitment to you.

As the Body of Christ, we are to come together to motivate each other to love and serve others the way Christ has commanded.

Dear Lord, thank you for the encouragement you offer in your Word. I pray that you would give me opportunities to encourage other believers, and point them back to you as I do so. In Jesus' name, amen.
