Worth What He Paid

"What marvelous love the Father has extended to us! Just look at it—we’re called children of God!”

Bob buys a rusted, frozen-up motorcycle at a garage sale for thirty-five dollars. Days later, Harley-Davidson calls him twice, and a man introduces himself as the company's chief executive and asks Bob to pull the seat off and read what's engraved underneath. It says “The King.” The bike belonged to Elvis. Bob is offered five hundred thousand dollars for a pile of rust, because of who owned it, not what it looked like.

You are valuable in the same way. Not because of your condition, but because of Who owns you. That's the total package John is unpacking in today’s verse. You didn't get adopted because you were worth adopting on your own. You're worth something now because of Whose you are.

Your value to God was never about what you bring to Him. It's about what He has already given you. That's the same truth standing behind every verse this week: the adoption, the destiny, the purity. None of it started with what you brought to the table.

Maybe today you're tempted to measure your worth by your bank account, your performance, your past, or what somebody else thinks of you. Set the measuring stick down. You're not a thirty-five-dollar bike. You're the property of the King, and that fact alone is worth more than anything you could have earned on your own.

Stop calculating what you're worth, and start living like you already know.

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for owning me before I had anything to offer You. Help me stop measuring my worth by what I bring and start resting in what You've already given. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
