Broad or Narrow?

September 19, 2025

"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."
Matthew 7:13-14 (NIV)

If your GPS offers two routes to the same destination: one packed with traffic that looks easier, and a back road that seems more challenging. Which one would you choose?

In today’s verse, Jesus presents a similar choice with eternal consequences. He describes two roads, one broad, one narrow. The broad road attracts crowds because it requires no commitment, no surrender, no change. You can keep your pride, your agenda, your way of doing things. It feels comfortable and popular.

The narrow road demands everything. You must acknowledge your need for a Savior and surrender control. You must follow Jesus instead of following your heart or the crowd. This road looks like it restricts, but it leads to abundant life and eternal hope.

The sobering reality is that Jesus says many choose the broad road while few find the narrow one. For most of us, the road to destruction doesn’t come through blatant rebellion but through subtle drift and small compromises.

That’s why Jesus invites you to choose. Choose the narrow road in everyday moments. In financial decisions, begin to ask "What would honor God?" instead of "What feels comfortable?" In that difficult relationship, choose forgiveness over bitterness.

Meet Jesus on the narrow road today. You won’t experience restriction; you’ll find real life.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for the real life You provide when I put my trust in You. Give me courage to choose your narrow road when the broad road looks easier. Help me trust that your way always leads to life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
