'"Why does the wicked man revile God?
Why does he say to himself,
“He won’t call me to account”?”
Psalm 10:13 (NIV)
His name was never found out.
In the fall of 1888, a serial killer prowled London's Whitechapel district, murdered at least five women, taunted Scotland Yard with letters signed only "Jack the Ripper," and disappeared without a trace. No arrest. No conviction. By every earthly measure, he got away with it.
Psalm 10 describes a wicked man who counts on that exact logic. He tells himself: "God will never notice. He covers his face and never sees. He won't call me to account." He's not just hiding from people. He's convinced he can hide from God.
But verse 14 turns the whole psalm: "But you, God, see the trouble of the afflicted; you consider their grief and take it in hand."
God sees in both directions. If you're hiding something right now, whether it’s a compromise or a habit, a secret, He sees it. He’s not shaming you, He’s calling you back before it takes you further.
And maybe you're the one who's been wronged and feel like you’ve struggled in silence, wondering if anyone notices. God sees that too. He's already considering your grief.
Write down whatever you've been carrying today. Bring it out of the dark. Then pray, "God, you see this.” He does. And He's already moving toward you.
Prayer: Lord, I've been telling myself that nobody sees what I'm hiding, or that nobody sees what I'm carrying. You see both. I bring it into the light right now. Whether I need forgiveness or just to know I'm not invisible, meet me here, Lord. I trust You, and pray in Your Name, Amen.
