God's Gift Isn't Optional

July 2, 2025

“Do not neglect your gift, which was given to you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you”.
1 Timothy 4:14 (NIV)

Here's a sobering statistic: only 10% of church members are actively involved in personal ministry, and half have no interest in serving at all. What does that mean? If 68% of Christians make their decision to follow Jesus before age eighteen, a generation of young believers is watching a generation of inactive adults.

The Apostle Paul's warning to Timothy applies to every believer: don't neglect your spiritual gifts. God hasn't equipped you for the bench—He's equipped you for the game. Just as no one person can produce a car engine alone, no single believer can fulfill the church's mission independently. Your contribution matters more than you realize.

You may think your gifts are insignificant compared to others. Perhaps you can't preach like the pastor or sing like the worship leader, but God has given you something unique and essential. Whether it's encouragement, hospitality, administration, or helping behind the scenes, your faithful service models kingdom living for the next generation.

Jesus said He "did not come to be served, but to serve" (Matthew 20:28, NIV). When you use your gifts faithfully—not to impress others but to imitate Christ—you show watching eyes what kingdom contribution really looks like.

The next generation needs to see Christianity in action, not just in words. They need to witness adults who serve joyfully, give generously and find purpose in God's mission. Today, ask yourself: What gift is God calling me to unwrap and use? Your faithful service may be the catalyst that inspires someone else to say yes to Jesus.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for giving me great and precious gifts. I know You don’t make accidents, and that my gifts are perfectly designed for the purpose You have for me. Help me commit and contribute in the Body of Christ, making a difference in our community, by Your grace and for Your glory. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
