My Treasure

September 25, 2025

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Matthew 6:21 (NIV)

One day, a rich young ruler approaches Jesus with serious confidence. He is proud of the fact that he's kept every commandment, lived a moral life, and has accumulated great wealth. But when Jesus tells him to sell everything and give to the poor, the man's face falls. He walks away because

In this moment, Jesus isn't interested in the man's money—He wants to expose his heart. Just as a compass always points north, your treasure always points to where your heart lives. This young man's treasure reveals a devastating truth: he loves his possessions more than God.

You might think you're different, but think about this: Do you sometimes check your investment account more often than you pray? Have you ever felt more worried about your house payment than your spiritual growth? What about spending more time shopping than serving others?

This might be uncomfortable, but the reality is that whatever you think about most, worry about most, and spend your time pursuing most—that's your real treasure.

When you're tempted to find security in your bank account, remind yourself, "My security comes from God, not my savings." When you catch yourself obsessing over material things, pray, "Jesus, you are my greatest treasure." Your heart will follow your treasure—make sure your treasure follows God.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are the greatest treasure I could ever have. Thank You for inviting me to draw close to You. Show me where I'm treasuring things that don't matter and give me a heart for what will last eternally. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
