"...whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked." 1 John 2:6 (ESV)
If someone watched your Monday through Saturday with no sound, just the footage, what would they conclude about who you actually know?
A psychiatrist is in his office one afternoon when an assistant interrupts. A man in the waiting room wants to see him. "He says he's invisible," she tells him. Without missing a beat, the psychiatrist says, "Well, go tell him we can't see him."
John runs that same test of visibility on every believer's claim to know God. He writes that whoever says he abides in Christ "ought to walk in the same way in which he walked." The word "walk" here doesn't mean a single step. It means your whole lifestyle, the pattern of how you move through ordinary days nobody is recording.
When you truly come to know God the Father, you begin to want the lifestyle of God the Son. You don't just talk the talk. You walk the walk, and when you walk the walk, people see you walking it. The key is realizing you don't manufacture that walk yourself. You let Jesus do the walking, and you just stay close enough that it shows.
This week, pick one relationship or situation still sitting unresolved. Which direction would Jesus go in this situation? Which steps would He take? Ask Him. Then let Him take them through you, because your only job is to stay close enough that it shows.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your encouraging presence. Draw close to me now! I want my private moments to match what I say about knowing You. Show me where my walk doesn't match my words right now. Let Jesus do the walking through me tomorrow instead of me trying to take the steps myself. In Jesus' name, Amen.
