Healthy Hearts

September 6, 2026

The Cleveland Clinic is ranked the #2 hospital in the world, renowned for cardiology and heart surgery. Imagine going there with a serious heart issue—you’d have brilliant surgeons, skilled nurses, advanced imaging, and the best care available. But the most important part of that hospital isn’t what you see; it’s what you don’t see: the power plant. No matter how great the surgeons or how advanced the equipment, if the power plant fails, nothing can be done. The hospital becomes no more valuable than a cabin in the woods. Your heart is the power plant of your body. It pumps oxygen-rich blood to every cell, tissue, and organ you have. Your brain, muscles, kidneys, liver, and immune system all depend on it functioning well. But your physical heart only has an earthly impact. It’s your spiritual heart that matters eternally, because no matter what else is true about you, if your heart isn’t right with God, you’ll never become what you were meant to be or go where you should go for eternity. Today we’re doing a spiritual EKG and discovering the three surefire signs of a healthy heart before God.

In this series

Proof Positive

Proof Positive explores the universal questions of life, death, and eternity. In 1 John, we’re going to move beyond assumptions and feelings into a confident, fact-based assurance of eternal life rooted in God’s unchanging truth.

Bible Reference

By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him;
for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything.
Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God;
and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.
And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us.
Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us.
